The CHS Concert Band is a great group of students eager to improve their musical ability through the practice and performance of their musical instrument.
The CHS Concert Band has one class per school day that meets period 4.
All students will receive:
A band locker for their instrument. Low brass and percussion have separate rooms to store their instruments.
A music folder and concert music.
Description:
All students can rent a CHS instrument for $60.00 per school year based on availability.
(Those students who own their instruments do not need to rent a school instrument unless you are asked to play a different instrument for the purpose of balancing the sound of the band).
Each working school instrument must be returned in good working order by the end of the school year. Clarinets, Oboes, Bassoons and Saxes must purchase your own reeds and neck straps.
Brass players must purchase valve oil and mouth pieces when necessary.
Percussionists must purchase sticks and mallets.
All students must maintain their instruments and keep them in good working order!
Mandates of Band Class:
Class participation which includes being seated in the correct section of the band room, having your instrument in good working order, music, music stand and a great attitude to learn the given material and literature.
Attentive/non distractive behavior during band class. This includes your personal electronic device such as a cell phone to be turned to silent and placed under your chair.
Upon entering the band room prior to the start of class, (bell ringing), all students will collect their working instruments, concert music, music stand and sit in their designated sections. This should take 4 minutes. All students will participate following the classroom rules given by the director or student officers. All students will put their instruments, concert music, music stand away upon the dismissal given by the band director.
Homework = Individual practice. Each student should practice a minimum of 15 minutes per day beyond the band class to maintain embouchures and musicality. More than 15 minutes a day will improve embouchures and musicality. Major, Minor scales and arpeggios are recommended with a review of the concert band literature. More than 15 minutes daily will help you improve your musicality.
Mandated performances of the CHS Band Class:
*Attend and perform at the CHS Holiday Concert held in December.
*Attend the 5 after school practices: 2pm – 4pm, Tuesdays in January, February and March in preparation of the Pinellas County Music Performance Assessment, (PC MPA).
*Attend and perform in the PC MPA usually the second Thursday of March. Review the Concert Band MPA Document and permission slip located in the concert band section of this website.
*Attend and perform at the CHS Spring Concert held in May.
All students must return all CHS equipment such as instruments, music and music stands by the end of the school year.
I am eager to meet and work with all interested CHS Band students.
